WINKIE’S SEASON 2018
2018 Is Winkie’s Castle’s THIRTEETH full year of opening to the public, and with your help our busiest to date. The museum opens on Easter Monday and is open every Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Mondays until September 30th. Winkie’s will be open for a few days at the mid-term holiday at the end of October, and as required by appointment for private parties schools or societies. We have over 1,500 satisfied visitors during 2017.

Winkie’s is a small museum with many old artifacts and printed material on display and there are various DVD’s visitors can watch. They can also access on our new touch screen, which has a record of all of our vast collection of postcards, photos and other documentation. Hard copies of these can be requested and photocopies can be purchased. We encourage our Visitors to hold and try using the various artifacts displayed to get a tactile experience. The vast majority of visitors give us good reports and positive comments and say they enjoyed the experience so please come along to see us.
We have compiled a book entitled “Changing Marske-by-the-Sea” which has photographs from around the 1950’s compared with the same locations now, accompanied by narratives relevant to each photo. This is an excellent book which evokes many fond memories for the older folk and is an intriguing look back into the recent past for younger residents of Marske and for visitors. Price £4.95.
Once again tribute must be payed to the Stewards and Volunteers (without whom we could not open Winkie’s). In addition to guiding visitors they do a considerable amount of work behind the scenes and commit themselves to serving regularly during the season. I must also thank the rest of the Management Committee who have all supported Winkie’s throughout the years and have made it the steady and continuing success that it undoubtedly is. Finally my thanks to the small band who compiled the book about Changing Marske. They spent a lot of time researching, taking photo’s, editing and getting this book printed so it is encouraging to see that it is selling extremely well.
I would also like to thank the many Friends of Winkie’s Castle. Their annual subscription not only gives us a small income in itself but also the fact that we have a dedicated and regular band of supporters that helps us to secure grants from donors who like to see that we have a sound base. It is also encouraging for those of us who give up our time to know that this is appreciated.
I would also like to acknowledge the financial support we have received from the Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council. I sincerely hope that, in this time of severe financial restraint, we will also continue to receive the very welcome support of the Redcar & Cleveland Council officials and our local Councillors.
On behalf of the Committee, volunteers and Friends of Winkie’s Castle.
Thank you for your continued support.
